Cities for Cohesion - the urban dimension of regional policy The European Union's cohesion policy is one of the clearest commitments by the EU to the improvement of the lives of citizens throughout Europe. Over the years, the EU has made an enormous difference to some of the EU's most deprived urban areas. It has also recognised that the urban area is key to the economic development of the region as a whole. We welcome the open debate on this question. A successful policy for the future requires the full involvement of local and regional players. These actors are closest to the EU citizen. 'Cities for
Cohesion' has identified key principles that should underline any
future policy on European Union's, 'Territorial, Economic and Social
Cohesion.'. This response is supported by the following cities: Diputacio di Barcelona, Budapest, Glasgow, Greater Manchester, G4 (Amsterdam, Den Haag, Utrecht, Rotterdam), Helsinki, London Councils, Malmo, Merseyside, Stuttgart, Tampere and Turku. > To see the Cities for Cohesion position click 10 key principles. > To see which cities and regions are involved in the 10 key principles document click here. |
